There has been an intriguing thread on UKWorkshop recently about protecting tools from rust in a shed. One idea is to bring the most vulnerable and valuable tools (saws, planes and chisels) inside the house during the cold so that condensation doesn’t form on them when it warms up. The rest of the time a well-insulated shed should be fine-ish. My idea is to build a chair that incorporates various tool-holding boxes (saws in the back, planes under the seat, chisels in the arm panels). I will try to draw something up in SketchUp that can be shared and improved.
Really like the thinking behind this, Nick. It sounds very similar to an idea that I had a while ago, for a stool that could be used in the workshop but also, you could store tools inside as well, for DIY use, etc.
I started doing a SketchUp drawing some time ago – will have to see if I can do some more on that and perhaps make something from it, at some point.
Olly.
Send us a drawing, Olly, if you have any luck.
